- Continental Lotus ( India) sank 160 nautical miles (300 km) east of Malta en route from Mormugao to Genova after developing crack in engine room bulkhead with the loss of 38 out of 42 crew [1]

- Moby Prince disaster: Livorno, Italy. 140 people died on a ferry leaving harbour. It is the worst disaster in the Italian merchant marine since World War II. It is also considered one of the two worst environmental disasters in Italian history.

- MV Braut Team: Sank in the Indian Ocean. The cargo included a brand new Chinese steam locomotive bound for the United States.[2]

- Salem Express: Capsized in the red Sea. Killing some 500 passengers and crew. But some says that it can be moved as many of 1600 dead.[10][11]
